Growing, Cultivating and Propagating Zucchini Squash

Squash--a fruit "cooked by the sun"

Squash, also known by its French name of "courgette" or its Italian name of "zucchini," is a type of melon. Its botanical name is Cucurbita pepo var. Melopepo, where pepo means "cooked by the sun."

Grown by the Indians
The squash probably comes from the tropical areas of America. It is not known to grow in the wild. The Indians cultivated this plant in the fields with Indian corn long before Europeans set foot on the continent.

Two Types
Two types of squash are commonly cultivated. One is a climber and the other is a bush. Most types of Summer Squash belongs to the latter group. The bush plants do not take up as much room as the climbers nor do they have as vigorous a growth. They are favorable for cultivation in the garden, on balconies or on patios, where they can be grown in tubs or boxes. The fruits can be used in many ways.

How to use them
The very small squash can be eaten raw in salads and the slightly larger fruits are good to use in casseroles or stuffed and baked in the oven. The large, ripe fruits, which are high in B and C vitamins, can be peeled and preserved in jars, sometimes together with ginger. The seeds are rich in oil which can be used for cooking.

Varieties
'Summer Crookneck' and 'Summer Straightneck' are two coarse varieties of yellow Summer Squash. Their names aptly enumerate their shapes.

'Ambassador' and 'Aristocrat' are two Zucchini varieties, with long dark green fruits.

'White Bush Scallop' is a range of Pattypan Squash, with round, white, scalloped-edge fruits.

How to grow squash--from April through October

Squash plants love sun and heat and hate frost. They cannot tolerate long periods of damp, cold weather and strong winds can ruin the leaves. The plants have a very short season but grow quickly. It may be best to start them from seed indoors before planting them outside.

Sow the seeds in pots of market propagating soil at about 1 inch deep. Sow 2 seeds in each pot and take off the weaker of the two when they germinate. Cover the seeds with 1/4 inch of sand. Keep them around 68°-70°F, and they will germinate within 8-15 days. After germination the temperature can be lowered to about 60°F. When the first set of true leaves appears, the seedlings can be transferred into larger pots. Plant them so the new leaves are just above the surface. When planting out, use a porous and humus-rich soil and leave at least a yard between each plant.

Pots and tubs should be watered well, but avoid getting cold water on the leaves. Use a high-phosphorous fertilizer to promote flowering and fruit set. Harvest the courgettes when they are only 4-8 inches long and new ones will grow. If the fruits are left too long on the plant, it will stop producing new ones.

A photo that comes to mind when one thinks of the old west is cowboys lying out on the open range under the stars. The men huddle nearby an open fire watching a kettle, which holds dinner. The kettle was most likely a Dutch oven, a thick-walled bowl made from cast iron with feet on its bottom, a handle, and some even with a riveted top for removing the hot lid. Dutch ovens were a mainstay of wagon trains heading west and chuck wagons driving cattle over the open plains. Dutch ovens can be used to cook almost whatever possible fluctuating from cornbread, steaks, green chile, red chile, and about whatever else that one can dream up. As wagon trains and cattle drives began to fall by the wayside, the Dutch oven slowly became a seal of the past for some although those in New Mexico embraced this icon of open air cooking. Each year, a estimate of towns in the state of New Mexico hold Dutch oven cook-offs where participants offer their recipes for red chili, green chili, chipotle barbecues, and other foods up for judgment.

How is Cooking New Mexican Food With Cast Iron

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Corn Pudding.

Dutch Oven History The Dutch oven began its debut in colonial America due to its adaptability and durability. Shortly after the colonists began using the tool, legs were added to the bottom of the pot to keep it off of the coals. Lids were also cast into a more concave style so coals could sit atop the lid without falling off. Dutch ovens were cast so well that many would last for years. Along with being favorite with colonists, those seeking fame and fortune traveling west would sometimes have no cookware other than a Dutch oven. The oven was great for cooking game birds found along the wagon trails in a stew, corn bread or bread pudding when meat was scarce, and for those lucky enough to find fresh fruit, the occasional pie or cobbler.

Regional Cooking: New Mexico While the East Coast became more stable, the western states were still pioneer country, and life under the open sky was normal. Cooking over an open flame was almost always vital and quite comforting on cold nights. Southwestern states such as New Mexico sense very hot daytime temperatures but nighttime temperatures could fall drastically. This made Dutch oven cooking an everyday affair. Over the years, New Mexicans perfected fare otherwise cooked on woodstoves in their Dutch ovens and other cast iron cookware. Iron skillets also became a cooking utensil that was used as much as the Dutch oven. A great attribute about the iron skillet is that the more one cooked in it, the good the food tasted. Seasonings seemed to stick in the iron and issue when meats were cooked in it.

New Mexican Fare One of the staples of New Mexico is its green and red chile peppers. These peppers can be hot, mild, and sometimes even sweet. Combined with a red meat, pork, poultry chipotle powder, and other vegetables, these chiles can create some of the best red chili or green chili in the world. When cooked in a Dutch oven, seasonings from prior meals accentuate the flavor of this favorite food. Coupled with corn bread cooked in a Dutch oven, many say there are no two foods that go good together. In contemporary times, habitancy will cook almost whatever that can be cooked in a quarterly oven. For instance, pizzas, casseroles, even lasagna can be great when cooked out of a Dutch oven. However, New Mexicans add their own flare to almost every dish to give it that taste of the Southwest.

Cast Iron Cooking Although cast iron cooking may seem relatively simple, there are a few things one should know before giving it a go. For instance, most foods, such as red chili, green chili, stews, and other soup mixtures are slow cooked over coals. The fire should not be flaming when the Dutch oven cooking begins. Coals of hardwoods such as oak, hickory, or maple are ordinarily used for cooking over open flames. These woods will burn until they became hot coals. Once the wood has turned to coals, the cooker should be settled in the middle of the coals, which are mounded up nearby the sides of the cooker and the lid. A note to whatever new to Dutch oven cooking is that the coals need to be hot although they must be watched constantly to avoid overcooking or burning the food. Prior to cooking, the oven should be oiled or greased. Many habitancy moot the type of oil that should be used although many habitancy will naturally use a sprayed-on vegetable oil. When cooking lean meats, many habitancy will fry a slab of bacon prior to placing the meat in the oven. This gives the meat a natural grease to cook in.

Chile One of the most favored Dutch oven dishes is the red chile. Red chile can be made a estimate of ways with a variety of ingredients. Some habitancy moot for hours what should or should not be used in red chile. However, many food services take the sick out of the red chile by containers the ingredients beforehand. This makes it easy for the average someone to make award winning red chile without years of experience. When making red chile for the first time in a Dutch oven, it may be easiest to use ground chuck with a fat content of at least 85 percent. The higher fat content allows for the beef to yield its own oil, which greases the bottom and sides of the oven. When making stews that don't use fatty meats, it may be best to use a vegetable oil or lard rub on the bottom or sides of the oven to safe the oven before and after use. Many stews also come in prepackaged packets taking the guesswork out of the cooking. There are many ways to enjoy cooking with cast iron. After a bit of experience, one can positively begin creating their own recipes for hours of open flame favorites for the whole family.

Recipes: Who Says You Can't Make Enchiladas?

No.1 Article of Corn Casserole Recipes

I stopped by the Mexican Bakery in our town yesterday to buy some corn tortillas. I like to have them colse to the house in case I get hungry and want to make a quick quesadilla or two.

I make my own variety of quesadillas but you can learn to make quesadillas at http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/000226quesadilla.php.

Corn Casserole Recipes

Anyway, when I got home, I decided to make enchiladas. This single batch was better than usual so I decided to share my recipe. That way you will be able to enjoy the enchiladas and my wife won't accuse me of not writing the recipe down (which I seldom do.)

Recipes: Who Says You Can't Make Enchiladas?

Ingredients

Here is what you will need:

Corn tortillas

Enchilada sauce (a integrate of cans if the cans are small)

Cheese (I use a blend from the local shop labeled Mexican Blend)

Olives (no pits)

Green chilies if you need more sauce or want to make your own sauce. I was short of enchilada sauce yesterday so I blended the enchilada sauce with stewed tomatoes and green chilies. I recommend you stick with enchilada sauce.

Chicken (make sure it is dead and plucked-I use breast but thighs would be better in my opinion-I lied-I used pork steaks yesterday-use what you want-got pot roast from Sunday?)

Onion

Mushrooms

Garlic (You don't think I would leave this out, do you?)

Corn (Not creamed, dummy. The plain stuff.)

Procedure

Chop a large clove of garlic and drop it into that big frying pan with the hot oil. (Not too hot. You don't like black garlic, do you?)

Chop the chicken, pork, or beef, and onion. Throw them into the pan. Stir as they sizzle. Sprinkle a bit of salt and pepper on them. More than that!

Drop the mushrooms and whole olives into the frying pan. Stir and stir. How's the chicken, pork, or beef coming?

Poor the drained corn into the frying pan. Stir some more.

Now chuck some enchilada sauce in the frying pan and stir that in.

How does it taste?

Making the Enchiladas

There are two ways to soften the corn tortillas. You can drop them into a hot frying pan for a few seconds and then turn them over. Have some oil in the pan.

I use the lazy way. I put them I the microwave for 30 seconds or less and then turn them and do it again.

Place some of the stuff from the frying pan into each corn tortilla. Now put a bunch of cheese on top and roll the tortilla into a cylinder.

Place the tortillas into a baking dish of some kind. Poor the rest of the enchilada sauce over them. Pile cheese on top.

Alternate way to make instead enchilada casserole

If you don't want to role enchiladas, just soften a few tortillas and put them in a casserole dish. Place one half of the mix from the frying pan on the tortillas. Place cheese on the top.

Now make other layer the same way. Don't forget to put the tortillas in the middle of the layers.

Place tortillas on top of the two layers.

Put the rest of the tortilla sauce on top. Cover this with more cheese

Baking the Dish

Bake for about 30 minutes or until the cheese melts in a 350 Fahrenheit degree preheated oven.

Let them sit a few minutes after you take them from the oven.

Call me over to your house.

Let's Eat'em!

If you have any left over, they will be better tomorrow.

Be sure your diet contains abundance of protein too.

When you reconsider how many apples/oranges (or you selection of fruit is required to make a cup of juice you can probably understand where I am headed with this one. Too many calories and an overload of sugar (natural or not, it's of no consequence) will not do your physique any favors.

7. Cheese and crackers. This is a popular dieter's snack, but are commonly wheat based (many citizen have wheat intolerance and should reduce the whole of wheat they consume)and highly processed. The compound of highly processed carbohydrates (crackers) and fat (cheese) is a perilous one for fat loss.

Sue's Tip: Brown rice cakes and cottage cheese are a much better fat loss alternative.

8. Sport Drinks. These are supposed to help you replenish electrolytes and carbohydrates. It's nothing else but just sugar water, with up to 30g of sugar per serving. If you are looking for fat loss, the only time these would be indicated is as a post weight training shake to help with recovery (provided you have trained your muscles intensely). And then, you should add 30g whey protein.

Sue's Tip: Drink plain water during your workout, and protein + carbohydrates post workout.

9. Fast Food Salads. comprise sugar-laden salad dressings, preservatives and ordinarily loads of incommunicable fat.

Sue's Tip: Stick to a orchad type tossed salad and add your own dressing, or make your own salads.

10. freezing Meals. freezing fruits and vegetables are great for you, don't get confused with this. I'm referring to the full Tv dinner type meal. They're processed, high in sugar and carbs, commonly low in protein and have added sauces and lots of sodium. Avoid if possible.

Sue's Tip: Cook your own - if time is an issue, have a 'cook up' day or two each week and ice your own home cooked meals ready to 'grab and go.

How is wholesome Lunch Box Ideas for Kids

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Corn Pudding.

All children have distinct tastes and preferences. Knowing your child's likes and dislikes regarding each food group is a must. A meat item such as turkey or chicken breast is fantastic. It doesn't matter if your child likes it on a sandwich; many children will eat it plain rather than on a sandwich. Peanut butter is a great source of protein and folic acid. Add some jelly for a child that has a sweet tooth. Sometimes that sweetness will satisfy your child's want for a rich dessert.

Children generally prefer white bread, and it will not hurt them to eat it. Toast the bread, too. Try substituting a very mild wheat bread or even wheat crackers. Children like to make their own minute sandwiches using crackers, cheeses, and sandwich meats. The peanut butter on wheat crackers is an excellent idea as well.

Most children prefer cheese on their sandwiches, so add a slice of real American or Kraft elaborate Sharp Cheddar. As you introduce new foods at home, keep in mind the distinct kinds of cheeses like Monterrey Jack, Colby, Swiss, Mozzarella, and Provolone. According to your child's preferences, pack any slices of cheese for a serving of dairy along with a peanut butter sandwich. If your child does not like cheese, try a yogurt of your child's preference.

Know the kinds of vegetables that your child will eat. Carrot and celery sticks are a widely used snack. Also try raisins, apple slices, orange slices, banana halves, and even pickles. Though prepackaged fruit servings are sold in grocery stores, it is often better and more nutritional to cut the fruit and vegetables yourself. Don't be afraid to pack nontraditional fruits such as watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, fresh pineapple, and kiwi slices. With such yummy things to eat, your child's lunch may be subject to a bit of envy from other children and even teachers.

Other ideas consist of dry cereal like Cheerios or Chex, peanuts, granola bars, or baked chips. These serve as the "chips" part of a packed lunch. Check the nutritional content of the packages before you rule which types of "chips" to pack. Make your own Chex mix with pretzels, Cheez-Its, yogurt raisins, Cheerios, peanuts, dried cranberries, banana chips, etc. There are so many potential combinations. Add some M&Ms to the mix and alleviate the need for a dessert.

If your child insists on a dessert, pack the lunch accordingly and leave room for a sweet treat. Pudding can be either low-fat or nonfat. Jello is a great sweetmeat for children that like fruity tastes. Pack a homemade oatmeal cookie or two or a concentrate of Hershey kisses. A handful of chocolate chips or M&Ms is the excellent amount for a child that has eaten a salutary lunch. If your child likes cacao or very dark chocolate, pack a concentrate of squares knowing that the sugar content is greatly reduced than that of milk chocolate. The antioxidants in cacao are a plus.

Many parents tend not to pack a salutary drink for their child, yet it is something that needs just as much consideration. Anything containing high fructose corn syrup as the main or one of the main ingredients should be tossed out the window. Orange juice and homemade lemonade are good choices if your child does not like milk. Nonetheless, reduced fat white milk is probably the best nutritional drink. Chocolate milk contains the same amount of nourishment as white milk and can be used to minimize your child's desire for sweetmeat items. Water is a fabulous way to replenish your child's thirst, too.

Ask for your child's imput as to how much they will eat. Some parents tend to over pack a lunch being afraid that their child will be hungry. The child will then return home having only eaten half of what was packed, and this can frustrate the parent. Remember that children don't need as many calories as adults do in a day.

There is no right or wrong way to pack a nutritious lunch for your child,

and there are so many distinct ways to concentrate salutary foods into your child's diet. The keys are to know what your child will eat and to make packing a lunch as simple as potential using common foods that you already have at home.

Beef Casserole For a Nutritious and Filling Meal For Your house

Cooking is something that quite a few of us enjoy if we only have to do it occasionally. It becomes something of a chore when you have to cook normally for your family and advent up with different menus and recipes can be very difficult at the best of times. All families have their favorite foods that they can not get enough of but having to cook the same dishes all the time can come to be quite tiresome. If you are stuck in this predicament and are looking for a nutritious and filling meal for your family then you need to look more intimately at a beef casserole.

Beef Casserole For a Nutritious and Filling Meal For Your house

A beef casserole is quite easy to cook so you won't need to slave over a hot stove for hours to give your family a hot and appetizing meal. Ground beef is best for a beef casserole and we will have a look at a few different ways to make this dish.

One way to make a beef casserole is to season the beef with taco seasoning mix, salt and pepper. You can make it extra hot by adding half a teaspoon of cumin. Spread the ground beef evenly using a nine inch quadrilateral casserole dish. Drain a fifteen ounce can of corn and layer this evenly on top of the ground beef. Make two cups of instant mashed potatoes and spread this on top of your mixture. Put one cup of grated cheddar cheese on top of your casserole mix. Sprinkle more taco seasoning on top and also add a small can of sliced jalapeno peppers. Bake at 375 degrees for one hour or until the meat juices run clear and you have a nutritious and filling supper ready to eat.

If you are looking for a more exotic beef casserole then you can make this in fact as well. Marinate two pounds of beef stew meat in a aggregate of one half cup of good potential burgundy, an equal whole of olive oil and a teaspoon of thyme, for eight hours or overnight. Slice a cup of fresh mushrooms and one medium onion. Saute the mushrooms and onion in butter until just slightly browned. Drain the marinated beef and brown fast over high heat. Merge the beef, mushrooms and onion and simmer gently over low heat until done, about 45 minutes.

All of the preparation can be done ahead of time. Slice three large potatoes thinly and saute in oil until almost done. Spread half of the potatoes in the bottom of a nine inch casserole dish. Put the beef aggregate on top, and then add the remaining potatoes. Add one cup of fresh sliced mushrooms and a sprinkling of dried thyme as garnish. Bake at 325 for 30 minutes. Serve with a dollop of sour cream over each serving.

Well, as you can see, you can make your beef casserole as unique as you want, depending on your taste, likes and dislikes. The best thing about manufacture this meal is that you can cook it and then ice it to use a week or two later to give you a ready meal when you are not in a mood to slave over a hot stove.

Do you know about - Are There Any Products That Are Comparable to Medifast? My thought Based on caress

Corn Pudding! Again, for I know. Ready to share new things that are useful. You and your friends.

I'm often asked about a collection of foods that the man asking is hoping is going to be as good as Medifast in terms of effectiveness.  I often get asked about grocery store shakes, protein bars, chili, pudding, chips, etc.  Sometimes people will bring up a singular goods like special K protein bars, but sometimes people are just seeing for alternatives that they can buy in a grocery or condition food store.  In understand this hunt, as once I ran out of my diet food and had to go searching for alternatives while I was waiting for my order (which I never let happen again.)  In the following article, I will share with you what I found.

What I said. It is not outcome that the actual about Corn Pudding. You look at this article for information about an individual wish to know is Corn Pudding.

How is Are There Any Products That Are Comparable to Medifast? My thought Based on caress

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Corn Pudding.

Most Products That You Hope Are "Comparable To Medifast" Won't Put You In Ketosis:  Here is what is the lowest line for me.  If I'm going to do through all the trouble and charge of moving diet or condition food, then I want that food to be low adequate in protein and fiber and low adequate in carbs and calories to be able to put me in ketosis.  This is really a delicate balance here.  Even having slightly too many carbohydrates and calories could delay or even halt this progress.  If you are not able to get into fat burning mode, what's the point, then?

So when I evaluate inherent alternatives for Medifast, then they need to fall into the same category in terms of calories, protein, and carbs at the very least, but I also really want for them to also be low in sugar and high and fiber.  And guess what? So many of the "alternatives" fall so very short of this mark.  Most comparable protein bars have twice as many calories and tons of carbs.  Some of them even have high fructose corn syrup listed as one of the main ingredients like a candy bar. That's really not going to cut it.

The same is often true for the shakes.  Many grocery store protein or diet shakes are really full of sugar and very inadequate in protein.  Many also have many more calories.  The Medifast foods are somewhere in the 90 -120 calorie range.  Very few of the alternatives are in any place near this.  Most are duplicate or even more.

People often tell me that they are seeing for grocery store substitutions because they think that these are going to be cheaper.  But, often, any lower cost is very nominal and really not worth the lack of effectiveness. If you use a decent Medifast coupon, I truly believe that this plan is cheaper than trying to prepare your own foods.

Do You Have To Get The Medifast Blender?: someone else substitution that I'm often asked about is the condition mate blender. The firm has it's own blender and I love it.  But, I'm often asked if any blender will work.  It will. You just want to get a very high powered one because you want a nice light and whipped texture, at least that is my preference.  I really do like the company's model though.  It's not much more than you would spend on at decent blender at a super center and it's made specifically for the shakes.

It is spectacular, the countless types of cookware available, catering to the contemporary cook's fancies. What constitutes the exquisite and best cookware excellent for the contemporary kitchen?

Pots and pans with heavy bases, sturdy and stay-cool handles and knobs that do not get hot during cooking, as well as tight-fitting lids are good choices. Non-slip bottoms, quick and even cooking and easy to clean are also leading considerations.

There are a number of materials used to manufacture pots and pans. A point worth taking note of is the gauge of the metal. The thicker the gauge, the more uniform the heat distribution. Efficiency of the cookware will also be affected by the close on the metal.

1. Aluminum cookware:
Inexpensive and yet an exquisite heat conductor, but stains easily. Pitting can occurred if used for cooking alkaline foods for a long period of time. The more contemporary version of electrochemically-hardened aluminum cookware, the hard-anodized aluminum cookware, heats quickly and evenly, resists scratching, and is incredibly durable.

2. Copper cookware:
Copper cookware provides excellent, even heat distribution all over. Beautiful and a good heat conductor but expensive, copper cookware usually comes with a layer of tin lining which prevents excessive copper from leaching into the food. This tin lining needs to be replaced as it will wear out straight through prolonged usage. Acidic food increases the issue of copper into the food.

3. Cast iron cookware:
Cast iron has the advantage of retention heat well. The pot heats up gently and evenly and for this reason, is ideal for soups and stews. The disadvantage is that it is heavy and rusts easily. Faithful usage is necessary to allege it in top condition. It is leading to wipe dry before storing. Potency of vitamin C in food cooked in iron pots is reduced due to the reaction by the metal ions released during cooking.

4. Enamel cookware:
Basically metal cookware, usually cast iron, coated with a layer of enamel. Powdered glass fused into the metal results in an easy to clean and attractive enamel covering. The disadvantage is that it chips indubitably and cannot withstand rapid, drastic turn in temperature such as from hot stove level into cold water.

5. Glass cookware:
Sudden, rapid temperature changes will consequent in cracks in most glass cookware. Being able to guide heat gently and evenly makes it a good selection for baking pies, puddings and casseroles. Corning ware and Pyrex are good examples of glass cookware.

6. Stainless steel cookware:
Relatively maintenance free but expensive. It does not rust or scratch indubitably and has characteristics of strength and durability. High potential stainless steel cookware has a layer of aluminum or copper in the base of the pot as well as the sides, resulting in great heat retention along with even heat distribution.

As a Weight Watcher person, and a diabetic taking insulin, I administrate three snacks a day along with regular good meals. What I would like to do in my article, is recommend some ideas you can use for low-calorie snacking in in the middle of meals together with bedtime. How is Snacking on a Weight Loss Regime - Yes, You Can Do it Healthfully!

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Corn Pudding.

First of all, my typical day begins with a wholesome breakfast. The morning meal includes no more then 300 calories. This includes a whole-grain cereal, 1 slice of toast, and 1/2 cup of orange juice. I change off once in awhile and have 2 whole-grain waffles with sugar-free syrup and 1/2 cup orange juice. For a mid-morning snack, I select one from the following:

1, Slice of whole-wheat toast with a very light touch of low-fat butter. I use low-calorie bread.

2. 1 Granola Bar

3. 1 cup of grapes whether green or purple

Lunchtime comes and I'll have a cup of soup which is broth based, lite lunch meat slices, and 2 graham cracker squares. About mid-afternoon, I need to eat again to balance insulin of course, so my snack choices will be one of the following:

1. A 100-calorie pack. They have a lot of these from snack mix, to sweets and all else.

2. An english muffin with raisins in it

3. A granola bar

4. Lean cold cuts such as ham or turkey. 4 slices rolled up with Dijon mustard

5. Pretzel Sticks-4 long rods make 1 serving

6. Kettle Corn-1 cup

7. Steamed or cooked vegetables such as carrots or green beans, 1 cup each

8. Low-fat potato chips

Now when it comes to suppertime, I have a very well-balanced planned meal that includes whether 4 oz of poultry or lean ground beef fixed in some way. I add some non-starchy vegetables, and a small side of fruit that is fresh. I ordinarily include a red potato baked or mashed with skim or one percent milk.  My bedtime snack ordinarily includes one choice of the following foods below 100 calories:

1. Lite Ice Cream or Low-fat Ice Cream 1/2 cup each

2. A Weight Watcher's frosty Novelty of which there are some kinds such as ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cones, double fudge bars, etc.

3. Rice Pudding that is by Kozy Shack and Sugar-Free is a great product.

So as you can see, this plan is sensible and does not deprive you of daily nutrients by getting snacks in between. I have now lost 25 pounds this way, snacking and all, and you can do this too by just together with snacks that are low-calorie, and yet satisfying and filling!

Casseroles Are Serious comfort Food

No.1 Article of Corn Casserole Recipes

On a cold night, after a grindingly long day, what better than to sit down to a hot dish replete with aroma, taste, and memories? Few dishes are as restorative as a casserole...warm, filling, and savory.

The casserole has roots in separate cuisines. What we dub lasagna has been cooked in discrete layered-and-baked pasta guises throughout the Mediterranean.

Corn Casserole Recipes

Baked beans have an honored tradition in the French cassoulet.

Casseroles Are Serious comfort Food

In the Southwest, Tex-Mex influences have brought us enchiladas baked in a dish, whether that be hamburger with a spicy red sauce, or chicken with a green chile and sour cream sauce.

If one layers potatoes with ham, and then lashes liberally with some sort of cream sauce, one ultimately arrives at scalloped potatoes, although speedier variations have evolved on this theme.

On a rushed afternoon in multiple households across America, readily-assembled casserole ingredients and a simple baking process have saved many a family from eminent starvation two hours hence.

Perambulations are many, actually, and come from a basic concept.

Think up a cooked starch--a form of potatoes, or cooked noodles, or rice--to which you add a protein. This might include raw or cooked chicken, perhaps ham, or ground beef, or tuna.

Next, add some sort of sauce, which serves three functions. First, it serves to hold the disparate ingredients together. Secondly, it provides creamy moisture throughout each bite. Thirdly, it serves to heighten the flavor of the dish as a whole.

Casserole ingredients can be layered into the pan, or just combined together. To get fancy, or to add color and to contribute supplementary nutrition, vegetables can be added into the mix. Peas, green beans, chopped celery or onions are common mainstays.
